Hassan Abdal on MAP
Hasan Abdal (حسن ابدال) is an historic town in Northern
Punjab, Pakistan. It is located where the Grand Trunk Road meets the
Karakoram Highway near the North-West Frontier Province province,
northwest of Wah. It is 40 km northwest of Rawalpindi. It has a
population of about over 50,000. It is famous for Gurdwara Sri Panja
Sahib, one of the most sacred places of Sikhism. Thousands of Sikhs
visit the Gurudwara on the eve of Besakhi every year. The other
historical place is a tomb erroneously called Lala Rukh Tomb. There is a
grave inside a square walled Garden and a fresh water fish pond near
the tomb. On the nearby hill there is a meditation chamber attributed to
a saint Baba Hasan Abdal also known as Baba Wali Kandhari with local
folks. The city is named after this saint.
About
RCDM Public School is a nonprofit charity school for vulnerable minorities (Hindu, Sikh and Christian) living in Hassan Abdal. It all started when in 2005 mega earthquake struck the Northern areas of Pakistan. RCDM Public School was planted to cater the educational needs of minorities who left Northern areas after the disastrous quake - seeking safer place for them.
We have come across that the students
of Sikh community often spend quality time at Gurdwara after school hours which affects their studies and remain
absent quite often. The Sikh boys tend to speak less in school. On the other
hand the Sikh girls have their own dilemma. As soon as they reached the age of
fifteen their parents, due to peer pressure or tradition, arrange marriages for
them. This gives a hint of significance of education among the community! This
also brings a lot of responsibility on teachers to manage their academic needs
within the school hours. RCDM Public School is there to make a difference and
bring awareness and significance of education and persistent to show the love
of Christ and be light and salt for the communities around.
